I guess many have already started using Windows 8 Consumer Preview edition, and also may have faced a serious problem of Internet. The Internet connection cuts off suddenly and do not connect again. As a hardcore computer user i download tons and tons of stuff, but when i try to keep a download in the night and check in the morning, the file will not even be downloaded atleast 20%. So i went on it and found a solution.

Here the actual problem was, as soon as computer is idle for more than a hour or long, and even when it goes to sleep mode or such things the internet is disconnecting and not connecting again until we restart the pc. The thing happening inside is as soon as the computer goes idle, the hardware i.e Network adapter is turned off. Here are steps to overcome it.

Go to Device manager. This may be done by either typing devmgmt.msc in the RUN terminal or right clicking at the left bottom corner and selecting Device Manager.

Now under Network Adapters drop down menu, select your Network controller, in my case it is Realtek PCI Family Controller. And in that right click and select Properties.

Now under Power Management menu uncheck the box for ‘Allow this Computer to turn off this device to Save Power‘ option and press OK.

And now the problem won’t be there again. :)

    Robin.

  2. your post is so nice. thanks for a nice post

  3. When ever you get a prompt from micrsoft to either restart your system now or postpone the restart of the system to a later time, its so that the system could completely install some microsoft system updates which it downloaded from the internet. Most antivirus does that too, norton in particular.

  4. I have actually a lot of problems in terms of my internet now and I really don’t know what to do as I am not really familiar with it…

  5. Back up your data before beginning, as restoring to factory settings will wipe your computer clean of its data. Depending on the amount of data, a USB flash drive, CD, or zip disk may be most appropriate.

  6. recently my friend is faced this problem on his new windows 8 computer . i will suggest my friend to read this tutorial . nice share suresh :)

Hello! I’m experiencing the exact same problem as you do. Did you find any solutions to it? If so, please reply.

  9. I am having the exact same issue – my internet connection is not working with my BRAND new samsung laptop with Windows 8. We use a wireless router and I know it is not a router issue – as my husband and others are hapilly searching the internet while my brand new spanking windows 8 is not connecting. We have tried installing the most recent drivers available through samsung and altering as many obvious settings as possible. I will try this option. There are so many people experiencing this issue – they are posting You Tube videos of how they are finding work arounds – but the work around only works for that session on the internet – they must re-do the work around every time they want to connect to the internet. I am very dissappointed that Microsoft has not been ON TOP of this and sent out a fix by now – this is the basic of basic applications and one of the major uses for computers today. I am crossing my fingers that this works for me – I REALLY appreciate you sharing your info…..
